Dear Food Journal,
Suck it! I can't take your constant nagging anymore. And I have to be honest, I've not been doing such a great job recently of cutting back on sweets and exerting will power. So there. Now that I've got that out in the open . . .
While my attempt to shed pounds by just "forgetting" to eat has failed, my running is still going strong. My first 10-miler was much easier than I expected. How quickly I go from just wanting to finish 10 miles to wanting to finish under a 10-min pace. Well, that's my goal for the next one. I am experiencing one minor set back: some knee soreness that I noticed immediately after finishing the race and which still persists today. The neurotic in me (the dominant ME) has already imagined visits to a sports medicine doctor, knee surgery (reconstructive?), and the worse case scenario--a switch to cycling.
Yesterday I paid a visit to my primary doctor to ask her opinion; not only about the knee soreness but also about the squishy bump that appeared out of nowhere when I flex that same knee. The diagnosis: the bump is either a prominent tendon that has probably always looked that way, or a benign cyst or lipoma. Any normal person what breathe a sigh of relief and move on, but I simply wonder, "Perhaps the doctor's not worried enough. Maybe she should do a biopsy?" I'll be keeping my eye on that knee (which from now on I'll refer to as my "dodgy knee").
I've only run once since the race; perhaps some rest isn't a bad idea. Tomorrow I'll head out in the morning to do a relatively short run of say 4-5 miles.
I've started logging my runs and workouts on a new site: dailymile.com. It's social networking for the wannabe athletes. The site calculates pace and calories. Fortunately there does not appear to be a place to log all the desserts you eat.
