I'll be needing an additional prescription just to handle the stress of Owen's upcoming foray into the land of oral appliances.
After meeting with the orthodontist today for a detailed presentation of treatment, it's not going to be pretty. For Owen's class III crossbite, he'll need an appliance on top and another on the bottom. The top one is a palatal expander, as in "We're stretching out the roof of his mouth." Every night, I get to insert a tiny metal key into a teeny tiny hole and crank it one notch. After months of this agony, his upper palate should have widened sufficiently.
Then we move on to the bottom appliance: a metal band that wraps all around the bottom teeth. I'm guessing this band will be somewhat noticeable when Owen smiles. Oh, nevermind, . . . Owen won't be smiling for at least the next 2 years!
Because of Owen's severe phobia of having stuff, including dentists' hands, in his mouth, this whole operation is going to be a disaster. Tay and I are going to discuss sedatives with the pediatrician to see if we can get hooked up. Not sure O will make it otherwise.
In addition to maintaining a sunny disposition (you can see I'm doing that, right?) I plan on buying Owen his own pony to alleviate my guilt. If anyone knows Jay-Z, please let me know so I can book him for Owen's next birthday party. God knows, that kid is gonna need some cheering up.

Oh no, sounds horrid. I was wondering about Jacob's teeth but our dentist said not to think about it until he's 11, I know the Brits teeth are not as perfect as over with you! Started doing supply teaching. Three days this week and three booked for the next 2 weeks. Have lost my voice but have enjoyed it. Spanned 3 year olds to 11 year olds so far. In Abi's class in a couple of week which will be interesting! Now enjoying a well deserved Gin and Tonic. Happy New Year, it was lovely speaking to you xx
